The Temple of Isis and the surrounding structures were built during the late Ptolemaic and early Roman periods (Egypt became part of the Roman Empire in 30 BC). The Kiosk of Trajan shows carvings of the Roman Emperor Trajan (r.98-117 AD) burning incense before the Egyptian gods Osiris and Isis. The photograph is signed, captioned and dated in the negative, 'F Bedford Philae'. The number in the Day & Son series is 20.
