Photograph of Puerta de Alcalá located in the Plaza de la Independencia at the end of Calle de Alcalá, Madrid. The building comprises of three monumental arches 72 feet high, flanked by walkways. Above the central arch, a plaque commemorates King Charles III (1716-88) who commissioned the building. It was designed by Francesco Sabatini (1722-97) and opened in 1778.
