Photograph of Aboyne Castle with two towers flanking a central annexe to form an H shape. On the left is a tower with a clock face and behind that, another two storey building. Steps lead to the main entrance and a drive, running from the left to the right in front of the castle, provides access. Dense forest in the background. Aboyne Castle underwent many stages of building through its history, beginning with its origins as a Motte and Bailey castle in the 13th century. A Stately home was constructed on the castle site in the early 18th century to which a second wing was added in the early 19th century.
