Photograph with a view across to a tree covered island on the centre of which stands a tower. In the foreground, on the right is a wooden framework on which rowing boats are moored with another boat positioned further towards the island. In the background on the right, are hills.
Loch Leven Castle was constructed c. 1300. Mary, Queen of Scots was imprisoned in the castle in 1567 only to escape, with the aid of her gaoler, in May of the following year.Provenance
