Photograph taken from inside the ruins of Sweetheart Abbey with a view towards the east. In the centre of the background is an arched window incorporating smaller, circular windows. In the middle ground is a tower with table tombs underneath an arch. Ivy covers the walls on the right.
The Cistercian Abbey of Dulce Cor or 'Sweetheart' was founded in 1273 by Dervorguilla of Galloway in memory of her deceased husband, John de Balliol whose embalmed heart she kept during her lifetime.Provenance
