Falls of Garravalt 1883 after an 1865 original
Carbon print | 7.8 x 7.2 cm (image) | RCIN 2620019

Photograph of a waterfall flowing over rocks, bordered by forest. In the left of the foreground are three children; two seated and one standing on a large rock that borders the river.
The Garr-valt waterfall is located in the Ballochbuie Forest on the Balmoral estate in Scotland, 3km from Braemar. This photograph is typical of the album prints that were popular during the mid 1860's. These photographs were often taken from one half of a stereoscopic negative and are typically in square format. This photograph is a later carbon copy of the original albumen photograph. Carbon was a process that was less susceptible to fading, unlike an albumen print that is prone to discolouration over time.Provenance
