Photograph of HM The Queen helping Princess Anne climb into an open ground floor window of Balmoral Castle. On the left, Prince Charles stands on a window ledge looking down at Princess Anne. After her birth in 1950, Princess Anne became Prince Charles’s principal playmate. This is from a sequence of photographs of Prince Charles playing with his sister and mother at Balmoral in 1952. The Prince climbs up the trellis and in through the window; Prince Charles stands tall on the windowsill; the 2 year old Princess Anne has a little trouble reaching the windowsill; Prince Charles comes to the rescue of his younger sibling. Balmoral Castle in the Scottish Highlands was built by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert as a family holiday home. It is still used by the Royal Family, particularly during the summer months.
