The Duke of Edinburgh was appointed Chancellor of the University of Cambridge in 1977, and Chancellor of the University of Edinburgh in 1952. He has also served as Chancellor of the Universities of Salford (1967–91) and Wales (1948–76). The photograph above shows the Duke walking through Cambridge at the time of his installation as Chancellor.
