They are dressed in nineteenth-century theatrical costume. The Princess Royal and Prince of Wales are shown to the right standing arm in arm. They are facing left towards the other four children who are standing together in a group. Princess Helena is standing to the far left, facing right and dressed in male costume. Princess Alice is standing next to her, looking down at the floor. Prince Alfred is shown standing slightly behind his older sister with the younger Princess Louise. Lettered and dated below. Queen Victoria's children performed Die Tafelbirnen as part of the celebrations for their parents thirteenth wedding anniversary on 10 February 1853.
