Photograph of the Haydarpaşa cemetery near the Scutari hospital complex in Constantinople (modern-day Istanbul). In the grassy area in the foreground there are a number of small stone headstones, most with the inscription clearly visible. Behind is a long, two storey barrack building with two large columns in front.
Several military hospitals were established by the British in the Scutari area of the city during the Crimean War. The Haydarpaşa cemetery was built nearby to bury the thousands of men who died in the hospitals during the course of the war.Provenance
