Photograph of the Haydarpaşa cemetery near the Scutari hospital complex at Constantinople (modern-day Istanbul). The gravestones, of different shapes and sizes, are spaced out in a grassy area. The corner of one of the barracks can just be seen to the left and there is a tree in the distance.
Several military hospitals were established by the British in the Scutari area of the city during the Crimean War. The Haydarpaşa cemetery was built nearby to bury the thousands of men who died in the hospitals during the course of the war.Provenance
