Photograph of the St George Monastery. The monastery consists of several buildings, interspaced with walled gardens. To the far right of the complex there is a small chapel with a dome and a portico supported by four columns. To the right and in the distance there are rocky cliffs. Two soldiers stand on the grassy hillside to the left, the man standing behind holding a basket. The St George Monastery, on the coast near Balaklava, was used as a convalescent hospital during the Crimean War.
