Photograph of a twenty-one gun battery in front of Sevastopol. To the left is a thick earth wall reinforced with wicker fencing and sandbags. There are two cannons with a pile of cannonballs on the ground between them. A large group of soldiers are gathered behind the wall, two sitting on the ground with their legs crossed. The Siege of Sevastopol lasted eleven months, with the allied British, French and Turkish forces eventually capturing the city on the 8th September 1855.
