Photograph of a street in Sevastopol after the fall of the city. Dilapidated buildings in the Russian classical style line the right of the street, many with windows missing and piles of rubble in front of them. A soldier stands by a sentry box half way down the street. After an eleven month siege the city of Sevastopol was captured by the allied British, French and Turkish forces on the 8th September 1855. The city was badly damaged during the siege, and many of the grandest buildings lay in ruins.
