Photograph of the French Headquarters in Sevastopol after the fall of the city. The photograph shows a row of buildings from the side, with one building slightly taller with a small cupola and a weather vane. Two French soldiers stand by a sentry box at its entrance and a Turkish soldier stands to the right. In front of the buildings there is a yard with several small bare trees and a flagpole, its flag ghosted through movement. After an eleven month siege the city of Sevastopol was captured by the allied British, French and Turkish forces on the 8th September 1855.
