Photograph of the railway sheds and workshops by the harbour in Balaklava. In the foreground is the railway yard with tracks, wooden carts and piles of building materials and supplies. The yard is surrounded by wooden huts and in the harbour behind there is a dense row of ships with tall masts. There is a hillside in the background. The town of Balaklava was used as a base by the British during the Crimean War. Supplies arrived by ship into the small harbour and were transported by rail to troops engaged in the Siege of Sevastopol.
