Carte-de-visite issued by Francis Bedford (1815-94) of the Suspension Bridge at Bangor in Wales. The reverse of the carte has a crest that reads 'Photographed by F Bedford, Photographer to HRH The Prince of Wales'.
This carte-de-visite (literally a 'visiting card') is typical of the many thousands that were produced in the late 1850s and 1860s. This small, affordable format meant many more people could have their portrait taken or acquire landscape views as souvenirs of places they had visited. Bedford was known for his topographical and architectural views of Britain.Provenance
From an album compiled by Alfred Evans, and presented to the Royal Collection in the late 20th century
