Kinrara house or Castle was built around the year 1804 by Jane Gordon, the wife of Alexander Gordon, the 4th Duke. She laid out the grounds surrounding the house and used the property during the summer. Following the Duchess's death, the estate was inherited by her eldest son, George Marquis of Huntly and his wife, who also used the property as a summer residence. During the late 1930's, the house was extended and was sold and remains in private ownership.
