Photograph of Balmoral Castle as viewed through trees that stand in the foreground. On the left stands a man who leans against one of the trees facing the castle. Wilson took a number of photographs of the castle from this same viewpoint which feature the figure of a man on the left as can be seen in this photograph. William Smith the Aberdeen architect was commissioned to design a new castle on the site of the original which had existed on the site since the 15th century. Prince Albert also oversaw the design of the new building which was completed in 1856.
