Provenance
Probably bought by George IV from Robert Fogg in July 1813 for £157 10s: ‘One larger do [Sève Porcelaine Vase Green Ground] painted in figures.’ Entered by Benjamin Jutsham in the Carlton House receipts’ ledger in January 1814: ‘A Large Old Seve Porcelaine Vase with Cover Green Ground & Gold, painted in Flowers & Figures, Dove handles [annotated] delivered to Mr Benois July 1813’. By c.1817 the vase formed the centre-piece of a garniture in the Golden Drawing Room, Carlton House, where it can be seen in Charles Wild’s drawing of this room. By 1826, the date of the Carlton House porcelain inventory, the vase had been moved to the Anti Room, Basement Storey: ‘No.66. A large green and gold Centre Vase and Cover of Seve Porcelain with acorn top, dove handles, wreaths and six medallions; the fronts painted in mythological Figures, the back in flowers; laurel wreath round the base; 20 In. high; broad Carved and gilt Stand’.
