Photograph showing a group of eleven men including the Prince of Wales, later King Edward VII, seated and standing around a low set of steps. The photograph was taken in Cairo in March 1862 during the tour of the East made by the Prince of Wales. The Prince of Wales recorded in his journal of the Eastern expedition the occasion of the photograph being taken. On the 26th of March he wrote: ‘After luncheon were photographed by M. Le Gray, a French photographer, who also went up the Nile with us’ [Royal Archives, Windsor]. The print has been cut down from its original size, presumably in order to fit on the album page to which it is now adhered.
