His right hand is raised in a gesture of blessing and he holds a sceptre in his left hand. The painting is photographed in its frame. A metal plaque at the bottom of the frame states 'Holbein' and there is an identification number on the lower left corner.
The painting was lent to the 1857 Manchester Exhibition by Charles Anderson Worsley Anderson-Pelham, 2nd Earl of Yarborough (1809-62). The painting is now in the collection of the National Gallery of Art, Washington.Provenance
