Photograph of a painting depicting Christ being taken down from the cross. Two males and a female support the body of Christ. The Virgin Mary, on the left, kisses the hand of Christ. A city is visible in the background. There is a skull in the foreground. An identification number, attached to the frame, can be seen in the lower left corner.
At the time of the photograph, the painting was attributed to Jan Gossaert, or Jan Mabuse (c.1478-1532). The work, titled 'The Deposition' is now attributed to Gerard David (active c. 1460–1523) and is in the Frick Collection, New York.Provenance
