A pair of blue enamelled gold bracelets inlaid with diamonds in a quatrefoil pattern, and bordered with pearls held in place by silver wire. The inner rim of the bracelet is enamelled with floral patterns in red, white, green and blue. A section of the bracelet is held in place by two diamond top screws and can be unfastened to put the bracelet on.
Provenance
The Prince of Wales may have purchased this pair of bracelets during his stay at Jaipur 5–7 February 1876, during his four-month tour of the Indian subcontinent. William Howard Russell, who accompanied the Prince during his tour kept a diary of the journey and recorded that on the last day of the Prince’s stay in Jaipur that Indian peddlers were ‘hovering around with articles for sale’ (William Howard Russell, The Prince of Wales' tour: a diary in India; with some account of the visits of His Royal Highness to the courts of Greece, Egypt, Spain, and Portugal, 1877 p.460).
