A set of eight small gold cups and covers, the sides are engraved with a delicate floral decoration. Each cup stands on tapering polygonal stem. The flat covers are moulded with two ropetwist borders that match the decoration on the base of the cup and rising in the centre is a large flower bud finial.
Provenance
Presented to King Edward VII, when Prince of Wales, during his tour of India in 1875-76. The donor of this gift is recorded in Indian Art at Marlborough House (1898) as the Maharaja of Kashmir. However, these cups were probably presented to the Prince by Kharak Singh, Raja of Kapurthala, who also presented a pair of gold bottles with matching engraved patterning (see RCIN 11362).
