[4]p. Illuminated MS on vellum. In box with 7 other poems John Masefield was Poet Laureate 1930-67. His output as laureate was large and varied, ranging from printed books illustrated by himself with his quaint vignettes of ships, to beautifully crafted manuscript poems for special occasions, with calligraphy by a noted scribe of the time (he was particularly fond of using Dorothy Hutton, one of the official Crown artists), on fine vellum, gilded and decorated. This poem is an example of one such work, addressed to HM The Queen for her Coronation in 1953.
