The Te Deum is a hymn sung to praise God. Its origins might go back to Saint Ambrose who lived in the fourth century AD. Actual evidence of the Te Deum being used in liturgy started to appear in the sixth century.
Composers such as Henry Purcell, Antonio Vivaldi and George Fredric Handel found new melodies for this traditional hymn. This is Prince Albert's version for choir accompanied by piano.
The collection also holds the printer's plate for this piece of music (RCIN 69803). -
