Sergeant Jowett of the 7th Fusiliers wrote a diary of his time in the Crimea which was published as a memorial, after he died from injuries sustained during the final assault on Sebastopol. This volume was presented to Queen Victoria by Sgt. Jowett’s parents, accompanied by a letter which pays a moving tribute to their son.
