A depiction of Krishna, the eighth avatar of the Hindu god Vishnu who takes the form of a divine statesman. According to Hindu belief he came to earth as the embodiment of love and compassion.
In this illustration, Vasudeva carries the baby Krishna over his head as he crosses the river to safety. In the water are two lions, a crocodile, a fox, a black buck, a peacock, some fish and two serpents.
