Capricci of pavilions

Many noblemen, including Smith who had a small villa at Mogliano, owned country houses on the Venetian mainland. These capricci are based on the pavilions and courtyards of those villas. The first drawing looks out across the lagoon from the mainland, while the second shows a courtyard scattered with barrels and pans, conjuring a sense of everyday life.
