About the role

As a Ticket Sales and Information Assistant, you provide a ticket-sales service for visitors to all of the official residences of His Majesty The King, either by telephone in our Contact Centre at St James's Palace or face-to-face at the sales counters.

Throughout the summer you will receive all the training needed to provide a thought-provoking and memorable visit to each site. You’ll answer customer’s questions, promote all the exhibitions, tours and events on offer and build each visitor a great day out.

You’ll enjoy working as part of a team to provide brilliant customer service. In this fast-moving environment it is important that you can prioritise your workloads and manage your time effectively even when things get busy. Above all, clear and confident communication skills are vital, as is the ability to relay information accurately and concisely to visitors from around the world.

Andrew’s experience

I saw the opportunity to work at the Palace and took it! This was my first job and having the role of a Ticket Sales and Information Assistant was a unique experience due to the historical significance of the places in which I worked.

It is a nice job to have and the community of friends that you form is incredible. The people in my team were very welcoming and I could feel a strong atmosphere. The support from the managers is always good. I have been able to work on my interactions with the members of the public and learn a new computer system in just under a week.

My advice to someone applying for this role would be to be ready to help members in your team because that is how friendships are built and it will become more enjoyable.

I do believe that you should be able to be in an environment that facilitates excellence and where you can strive to be good at your job and to learn new skills.

Cara’s Experience

I applied for the role of Ticket Sales and Information Assistant initially as a short-term role for the summer, to be useful and use my brain, and to help people have a great day. I enjoyed it so much I wanted to stay!

This role involves dealing with the public, in person and on the phone, passing on useful information, and helping them to have a great day. The reward of a customer coming back and telling you what a great time they've had is brilliant. You’ll also be keeping up to date with any changes, new information, sales targets, and general administration.

My advice would be to treat it as a learning curve, there is always something new and it can be challenging. No two days are the same, dependent on the customers. You’ll be working with a great variety of people from many different backgrounds and help is always at hand.

Most of all I have enjoyed working with people, both colleagues and customers - they're all different and help you to develop new skills all the time.

Everyone working for the Royal Household is so kind and helpful, and always has a smile and a hello whoever they are and wherever they work.

This is a very special place, with a different atmosphere and different ideals, which makes it challenging, but also very rewarding. There isn't anywhere else like it!
