The photograph collection consists of 500,000 photographic prints and negatives, as well as equipment and film, all housed in the Round Tower at Windsor Castle. Not many people know that Queen Victoria and Prince Albert laid the foundations of the collection, which now includes portraits, architectural, topographical and landscape works, portraits, studies of royal residences, media images and photographs taken by members of the Royal Family.

We research and plan exhibitions, answer enquiries from all over the world, give lectures, and publish on line and in print. We work to share the collection as broadly as possible and love that our role brings us into contact with a very wide range of people.

Because of their provenance, the photographs we look after are unique and inextricably linked with our national history. The collection is also unexpected at times; for example, nobody would think that we have a world-class collection of early Antarctic photographs in the Royal Collection.

We look for people who are passionate about what they do and are comfortable working in a small team. Curators usually have a specialist background in Art History or another relevant subject – and a love of photography is, of course, essential.
