Limited-edition Coronation china

Release date: Thursday, 16 May 2013

Royal Collection Trust is introducing three new limited-edition pieces to the official Coronation range of commemorative china, which marks the 60th anniversary of Her Majesty The Queen’s Coronation.  The official Coronation range includes a wide variety of items, with prices beginning at £25.00 for a coffee mug.  The new limited-edition items are a loving cup, limited to 750 pieces, a hinged oval pillbox, of which only 1,000 have been produced, and a bone china tea caddy in an edition of 750 .

Much of the inspiration for the limited-edition pieces comes from the pomp and pageantry of the Coronation procession on 2 June 1953.  On that day, The Queen, accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh, travelled to and from Buckingham Palace in the Gold State Coach as an estimated three million people lining the streets looked on.  The coachmen who drove The Queen to Westminster Abbey wore the scarlet State Livery, which is reflected in the deep red tones of the Coronation range.  The Royal Arms, which are incorporated into the design of each china piece, decorated the State Coaches and landaus used in the procession.

State trumpets proclaimed the moment that The Queen was crowned in the Abbey, and the decorative borders which frame each china piece are inspired by the silk-damask banners on the instruments.  On the evening of her Coronation, The Queen gave a speech which was broadcast to the nation, proclaiming; ‘Throughout all my life and with all my heart I shall strive to be worthy of your trust,’ a quotation which is hand-painted on to the limited-edition tea caddy.

The official Coronation range, which went on sale in January, is produced exclusively for Royal Collection Trust in Stoke-On-Trent.  The potteries there use techniques that date back 250 years to hand-craft each item in fine-bone china, then decorate and embellish each piece with several layers of raised burnished gold.  The china is finished with a final layer of 22-carat gold, and each piece is individually numbered and presented in a satin-lined gift box with a numbered certificate of authenticity.

The official Coronation range is available to buy online.
