This tailored jacket tweed jacket was worn by The Queen on informal occasions and was usually paired with a pleated skirt. The kilt is made from Balmoral tartan. Queen Victoria and Prince Albert are credited with having invented the Balmoral Tartan in about 1850, after acquiring the lease of the Highland Castle of Balmoral in 1847, now The Queen's private residence in Scotland. As well as being used for skirts and kilts, the tartan was one of several used extensively for furnishings at Balmoral. The tartan is personal to the Sovereign's family.
